What Is Facial Balancing?
Facial balancing is a highly customized injectable treatment that uses strategic placement of dermal fillers, biostimulators and neurotoxins to enhance the way your facial features work together. It is sometimes referred to as facial harmonization.
Many injectable treatments focus on a singular concern. For example, you might choose dermal fillers to augment your lips or Botox® to relax your frown lines. Facial balancing takes a broader view. Your Nurse Injection Specialist looks at how each of your features relates to the others and makes adjustments that bring everything into better alignment.
How Does Facial Balancing Work?
Aesthetics are interconnected. Changing one feature without considering the others may throw off the visual balance of your face, even when the individual treatment was done well. Facial balancing addresses this by treating the face as a whole rather than treating areas in isolation.
During your assessment, your Nurse Injection Specialist will examine the contours and proportions of your face from multiple angles, identifying where enhancements can create the most natural improvement. From there, they will design a plan using a personalized combination of injectables selected for each specific area.
What Can Facial Balancing Treat?
Facial balancing can address a wide range of concerns across the face. Your treatment plan will be built around the specific areas that will have the most impact on your facial harmony and proportions.
Brow and Forehead
Neurotoxins like Botox® and Dysport® can smooth forehead lines and lift a heavy brow to give the upper face a more open and youthful appearance.
Temples
Hollowing in the temples creates a sunken appearance that can age the upper face. Volume can be restored to this area with dermal fillers.
Under-Eyes
Dermal fillers can reduce the appearance of hollow tear troughs, while neurotoxins can soften crow’s feet that form at the outer corners of the eyes.
Cheeks and Midface
Volume loss in the midface is one of the earliest visible signs of aging. Fillers can restore fullness and definition to the cheeks and may minimize the look of nasolabial folds.
Lips
Lip enhancement with fillers balances the volume and shape of the lips as they relate to the chin, nose and other surrounding features.
Nasolabial Folds and Marionette Lines
Fillers can soften the appearance of these lines. In some cases, the more effective approach is to restore volume higher in the face and let the improvement cascade downward.
Chin
A weak or receding chin can make other features appear disproportionately large. Filler placed in this area improves profile projection and creates a more defined lower face.
Jawline
Fillers can add structure and shape to an undersized or soft jawline. For an overly strong jaw caused by large masseter muscles, neurotoxins can relax the muscles to slim the lower face.
What Injectables Does LIVskin Use for Facial Balancing?
Facial balancing uses multiple types of injectable products. Your Nurse Injection Specialist will select the right combination based on the areas being treated and the results you want to achieve.
Dermal Fillers
Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are the foundation of most facial balancing treatments. Different HA formulations are designed for different purposes. A thicker, firmer filler might be used to build structure in the cheeks or along the jawline, while a softer product works better for the lips or under-eye area. At LIVskin, we carry products from the Juvéderm® and Restylane® families, giving your injector a full range of options to match the right product to each area of your face.
Neurotoxins
Botox® and Dysport® are used in facial balancing to relax muscles that contribute to asymmetry, wrinkles, drooping or tension in your face. Common applications include smoothing forehead lines, lifting the brows, slimming an overly prominent jawline and softening a dimpled chin.
Biostimulators
Sculptra® works differently from HA fillers. Rather than adding volume in the area where it’s injected, it stimulates your body’s natural collagen production. It’s a good option to consider if you have more significant volume loss and/or if you prioritize gradual, long-lasting, natural-looking improvement.
Am I a Good Candidate for Facial Balancing?
Most healthy adults are good candidates for facial balancing. The treatment is highly customizable, which means it can work for a wide range of ages, goals, skin types and starting points.
Some patients come in during their 20s or 30s to refine proportions they feel have always been out of balance. For example, facial balancing can work beautifully for a patient who feels their chin sits too far back and makes their nose look disproportionately large. Others start facial balancing later, when volume loss and other age-related concerns have changed the way their features work together.
You may not be a candidate for facial balancing at this time if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection in the treatment area, or are allergic to any ingredients in any of the products used. Your Nurse Injection Specialist will confirm your candidacy during your complimentary consultation.
What to Expect From Your Facial Balancing Treatment at LIVskin
Consultation
Every facial balancing treatment begins with a thorough consultation. Your Nurse Injection Specialist will develop a personalized treatment plan after discussing the results you hope to achieve and assessing your face from a holistic perspective. There is no formula for facial balancing. Your plan is built around your unique bone structure, facial proportions, signs of aging and aesthetic preferences. If facial balancing is not the right fit for you, your injector may recommend alternative treatment options.
Treatment
Facial balancing appointments generally take 30 to 60 minutes, depending on how many areas are being treated. Your Nurse Injection Specialist will apply a topical numbing cream to keep you comfortable throughout the process. Many of our fillers also contain lidocaine, an anesthetic, which helps further. Your injector will place the products strategically using fine needles or cannulas, working through each area outlined in your treatment plan. Some patients complete their full plan in a single session. Others take a staged approach and build toward their final result over two or more appointments.
Recovery
There is minimal downtime after facial balancing. Most patients return to their normal activities the same day or the next. You may notice some swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising at the injection sites. These effects are temporary and typically resolve within a few days. Your Nurse Injection Specialist will give you specific aftercare instructions. General guidelines include avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol and heat exposure (saunas, hot tubs, hot yoga) for 24 to 48 hours after treatment. You should also avoid pressing or massaging the treated areas unless your injector specifically instructs you to do so.
What Kind of Results Can Facial Balancing Achieve?
You will see the results from HA fillers immediately, though there may be some swelling in the first few days that can temporarily exaggerate the fullness. Final results settle in over one to two weeks as the swelling resolves and the filler integrates with your tissue.
If your treatment plan includes neurotoxins, their results develop gradually over three to seven days, with full effects visible at about two weeks. Sculptra®’s results appear gradually, with full benefits peaking at three to six months after collagen production has had time to ramp up.
The longevity of your results depends on which products are used and where they are placed. HA fillers in high-movement areas like the lips tend to last six to nine months. Fillers placed in lower-movement areas like the cheeks, chin and jawline often last 12 to 18 months or longer. Sculptra® can last two years or more. Neurotoxins last three to four months on average.
These treatments are related but not identical. A liquid facelift is a broad term for using injectables to create a comprehensive rejuvenation effect, often focused on minimizing signs of aging. Facial balancing places a stronger emphasis on proportion and symmetry, looking at how all your features relate to each other and making adjustments that improve the overall composition of your face. A facial balancing plan may include anti-aging goals, but it can also address proportional concerns that have nothing to do with aging.
The overdone look typically happens when too much product is placed in one area or when the injector focuses on individual features without considering the face as a whole. Facial balancing is designed to avoid exactly those issues. Our Nurse Injection Specialists take a conservative, whole-face approach and prioritize results that look natural. You should leave looking like a refreshed version of yourself.
The cost of facial balancing depends on the number of areas treated and the amount and type of product used. Because the treatment is fully customized, pricing varies from patient to patient. During your complimentary consultation, your Nurse Injection Specialist will provide a detailed cost estimate based on your personalized treatment plan. You may feel a slight pinch or pressure during the injections, but most patients tolerate facial balancing well. We apply a topical numbing cream before the injections, and many of the fillers we use contain lidocaine for added comfort.
Absolutely. Many of our patients pair facial balancing with skin treatments like Hydrafacial™, SkinPen® Microneedling, chemical peels or laser treatments to address skin texture, tone, hydration and clarity alongside their injectables. Our team of Nurse Injection Specialists and Advanced Practice Aestheticians can help you build a comprehensive plan.
