What Are Cosmetic Injectables?

Cosmetic injectables are a category of nonsurgical treatments with a versatile range of applications. They are the most popular minimally invasive aesthetic treatments performed in the United States.

Different injectables work in different ways. Some relax the muscles that cause expression lines. Others add volume and structure where your face has lost fullness or always lacked it. Some stimulate collagen production or dissolve unwanted fat.

Many patients benefit from strategically combining injectables, an approach commonly called facial balancing.

What Injectable Treatments Are Available at LIVskin?

We carry a comprehensive selection of injectable products at LIVskin MedSpa, all from reputable brands that value innovation and safety.

Neurotoxins (Botox® and Dysport®)

Neurotoxins temporarily relax the facial muscles responsible for expression lines. They are most commonly used to smooth forehead lines, frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet, though they also have applications for brow lifting, jawline slimming, lip enhancement and more.

We carry two FDA-approved neurotoxins at LIVskin: Botox® and Dysport®. Both use botulinum toxin type A as their active ingredient, but their formulations are slightly different. Results typically appear within five to seven days and last three to four months. Learn more about neurotoxins.

Dermal Fillers (Juvéderm® and Restylane®)

Dermal fillers add volume, smooth lines and contour the face. At LIVskin, we carry FDA-approved fillers from two leading hyaluronic acid-based filler families:

Juvéderm®

  • Juvéderm®
  • Juvéderm® XC
  • Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC
  • Voluma®
  • Volure®
  • Volux®
  • Volbella®

Restylane®

  • Restylane®
  • Restylane L® (+ lidocaine)
  • Lyft®
  • Defyne®
  • Refyne®
  • Contour®
  • Kysse®

Results from hyaluronic acid fillers are visible immediately and typically last six to 18 months, depending on which product is used and where it is placed.

Collagen Stimulator (Sculptra®)

Sculptra® is a collagen biostimulator made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Rather than adding volume directly upon injection like hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra® stimulates your body to produce more collagen. The PLLA particles are gradually absorbed, and in their place, your skin builds new collagen to revitalize itself from the inside out.

Common Sculptra® treatment areas include the cheeks, temples, nasolabial folds and jawline. Results typically become visible within six to 12 weeks and can last up to two years when the full protocol of two to three treatments is completed.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a regenerative skin treatment made from your own blood. A small blood draw is processed in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets and growth factors within it. That concentrated solution is then injected into your skin to support tissue repair, encourage collagen production and improve skin quality.

For optimal results, we typically recommend completing an initial series of PRP treatments. Each appointment should be spaced approximately a month apart. Following this series, we suggest maintenance treatments every six to 12 months to sustain the results.

Fat Dissolver (Kybella®)

Kybella® is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment for reducing moderate to severe submental fullness (commonly known as a “double chin”). When injected into the pocket of fat beneath the chin, it permanently damages fat cells so they can no longer store or accumulate fat.

Most patients need two to four Kybella® treatment sessions spaced at least one month apart, though some may need up to six depending on the amount of submental fullness present and their desired outcome.

Facial Balancing

Facial balancing is a customized treatment approach that uses a strategic combination of injectables (typically dermal fillers and neurotoxins) to enhance facial proportions and symmetry. Rather than focusing on a single area, your injector considers how all your features relate to each other and makes adjustments that bring everything into better harmony. Learn more about facial balancing.

What Can Injectables Treat?

One of the advantages of having a full range of injectables available is that we can treat many different concerns, and often more than one in the same session. Depending on which product your Nurse Injection Specialist uses, injectables can treat:

  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Frown lines (glabellar lines or “11s”)
  • Crow’s feet
  • Bunny lines
  • Downturned mouth corners
  • Dimpled chin
  • Gummy smile
  • Vertical neck bands (platysmal bands)
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Thin lips
  • Perioral lines (lip lines)
  • Tear troughs
  • Hollow temples
  • Cheek augmentation
  • Jawline slimming or augmentation
  • Nonsurgical rhinoplasty
  • Submental fat (double chin)

Good to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the type of injectable used. Neurotoxins typically last three to four months. Hyaluronic acid fillers typically last six to 18 months. Sculptra® results can last up to two years or more. Kybella® permanently destroys fat cells in the treated area, though you may need multiple sessions to reach your desired result.

Most patients tolerate injectable treatments well. Your Nurse Injection Specialist may apply topical numbing cream before the injections, and many of the fillers we use contain the anesthetic lidocaine. Kybella® can involve a more noticeable stinging or burning sensation during injection, but it subsides quickly.

Injectable pricing varies depending on the product used and the number of units or syringes needed. Your Nurse Injection Specialist will provide a cost estimate based on your personalized plan. Contact us to learn more about our pricing and any current specials.

Before your appointment, avoid blood thinners, alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen and Vitamin E/fish oil supplements for three to five days. Temporarily removing these items from your routine reduces your risk of bruising from the injections. After your appointment, avoid strenuous exercise, intense heat (saunas, hot tubs, hot yoga, etc.) and massaging or rubbing the treated area unless your Nurse Injection Specialist specifically directs you to.

Most healthy adults are good candidates for one or more types of injectable. You may not be a candidate at this time if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active infection in the treatment area, or are allergic to any ingredients in the products used. Your Nurse Injection Specialist will assess your candidacy during your consultation.
